Aska Science College, established in 1968, was conceived by the people of this area as a fulfilment of a long standing demand of the local youth who aspired to receive higher education and be at par with youths of other parts of the state in education, enlightenment and employment. Originally funded by the contribution of the sugarcane farmers of the locality. It aimed it imparting general higher education to the local youth who were unable to receive it due to lack of access. In the last fifty years, it has not only established itself as a pioneer educational institute in the whole state but it has also produced numberless Doctors, Engineers, Professors, Lawyers and other professionals who have contributed successfully to the well being of society at large. The history of the college is marked by a disciplined academic environment and excellent student performance year after year. Whoever has worked in this college has been inspired by its wonderful academic commitment, dedicated teaching process and smooth administrative machinery. The teaching learning process of the college has been an example for several other educational institutions that have come up later in the area. The employees working here have always shown exemplary sincerity, commitment and dedication which in turn have inspired the students to work hard arid achieve excellence in their academic life.

The college was funded as a private institution with a few employees and a few hundred students in 1968 in a building which presently houses the government hospital. The employees who joined in it then worked hard not for money but in a spirit of service and dedication. By the grace of God and with the cooperation of all stake holders they were able to make the college an institution that could impart quality education to the local youth. Incidentally, the college had to be shifted to the Govt. Technical High School building at Kotinada in 1976 where it continues functioning till date. Since then, the college has come a long way. At present, it has nearly three thousand students, more than seventy employees and a large campus with one three — storied building, one two-storied building and several single storied buildings dotting the campus.

Over time, the college has come under the direct control of the Director of Higher Education as an Aided College where most of the teachers and employees are controlled by the Acts of Odisha Government for Aided Educational Institutions. At present most of the members of teaching staff are recruited by the Governing Body at the direction of the Director of Higher Education who recommends candidates selected through a statutory body called State Selection Board. Of course, there are other teaching staff who were recruited by the Governing Body but were later approved by the Director, Higher Education and brought into Direct Payment fold. The college also engages a number of employees of different categories of employees on contractual / temporary basis for smooth running of the college when there is shortage of staff.

In case of class III and class IV employees there is no such provision for direct recommendation / recruitment by the government. Those who were recruited by the Governing Body have been approved and are being paid by the government but after their retirement there is no fresh recruitment. However, the Governing Body engages some people to carry out the work on these vacancies in temporary basis. Just as a human being faces numerous problems in his / her life, Aska Science College too has faced several Problems. But like a mature man, it has weathered all the crises and emerged out of these with more shine, more glory and more commitment to its goal of imparting quality education through a holistic approach aimed at physical, mental, emotional and intellectual development of the students. Throughout its life so far it has striven to empower the youth with latest scientific knowledge and make them culturally refined, socially responsible and emotionally sensitive to the needs of the nation.

The teachers who work in this college have understood the vision of the founders and are laboring hard to achieve the goals set before it. With change of times, new challenges have appeared and all the staff members including the lowest have pledged to meet these fearlessly. The Governing Body of the college has been a very supportive one in these attempts. That is why the college was able to successfully arrange the second visit of the UGC NAAC Peer Team and earn a prestigious B' grade. The selection of the college for the World Bank aid in 2019-2020 is also another feather in its cap.

But all is not well with the college. Shortage of non-teaching staff has been a regular problem for the last few years. Similarly, lack of infrastructure for the rising number of students and staff scarcity of funds to provide basic amenities to the students etc. have appeared as hurdles in the fast onward march of the college into a bright future. But the stake holders are not people to back out as their college has taught them how to face challenges and conquer them. Armed with the grace of the presiding deity of the town Maa Khambeswari and equipped with unlimited self-confidence, they are ready to take every challenge head on and make Aska Science College one of the Best colleges in Odisha.
